VAL ALLEN (1923 - )

Val Allen is a respected Australian artist.  Trained by acclaimed Australian abstract artists, John Wolseley, Robert Grieve and Ron Robertson-Swann, Val's work is inspired by the natural beauty of the environment. Through her use of vibrant colour, texture, light and movement, she illustrates a connection and understanding of nature. Here we see an abstract still life including a variety of sea shells and tests (sea urchin shells). She has held several successful solo and group exhibitions in Australia (even as recently as last year at 94yo), and is represented in numerous significant institutions, such as the New England Regional Art Museum. One of her earliest known works, and a brilliant example of early abstraction in Australia.
