LAURIE PAUL (1928 - 2012)

Laurie Paul was a well-respected, pioneering female Abstract Expressionist. Educated at the University of New England and University of Queensland, she studied under important Australian mid-century painters, Rapotec, Orban and Daws, before being involved in the first wave of Australian female abstract expressionists in the mid 1960s. She exhibited widely throughout Australia and the USA and her work is represented in several major galleries including the Tasmanian Art Gallery. 'Demolition' (1965) from the same series is in the Grafton Regional Art Gallery permanent collection.
