JOHN CHARLES ALLCOT (1889 - 1973)

 John Charles Allcot OBE was an important British Australian landscape and marine painter. He made a brief study of lithography in England prior to becoming a sailor at the age 16. He arrived in Australia in 1911. He was best known as a marine artist, but he also painted local Australian landscapes. He was awarded the OBE in 1970 for his contributions to Australian art. He was based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and the area was a popular subject for Allcot during the 1930s.
