LORI SACHS (1908 - 1978)

Lori Sachs was a respected Austrian painter, designer & printmaker. Raised and trained in Vienna, Sachs emigrated to Australia around 1960, settling in Hobart. Here she established herself as a prominent printmaker, and was invited to exhibit at the Sydney Printmaker's Society in 1967 at the Blaxland Gallery. A member of the Workshop Arts Centre Board alongside fellow alumni John Coburn, John Firth-Smith, James Gleeson, Frank Hinder & Lloyd Rees, she was instrumental in the first wave of female abstract expressionists in mid 1960s Australia, inspired by this new style emerging from Europe.
