VACLAV MACHA (1920 - 1998)
Václav Mácha is a celebrated Czech abstract artist. Having trained in Prague, he emigrated to Australia in 1950, settling in Perth and marrying Mary. He exhibited large works alongside important Perth-based mid century abstract artists Robert Juniper, Guy Grey-Smith & William Boissevain. Mácha, along with his wife, Mary, are perhaps better recognised for discovering, influencing and supporting a generation of significant Aboriginal artists, including Lily Karadada, Alec Mingelmanganun, and most importantly, Rover Thomas!!
