ARTHUR MERRIC BOYD Sr. (1962 - 1940)
Arthur Merric Boyd Sr. was an important New Zealand Impressionist. Patriarch of the influential Boyd Artistic Dynasty, which included Emma Minnie, Penleigh, William Merric, Lucy, Guy, David, Arthur Merric Bloomfield, etc., he was a highly respected painter of his day, known for his beautiful landscape watercolours. Although he did not reach the heights of his Heidelberg School contemporaries, he was close friends with Frederick McCubbin and Emanuel Phillips Fox. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London and is represented at the National Gallery of Victoria.
