GCINA SAM MADUNA (1955 - )
Gcina Sam Maduna is a respected South African artist. Raised in Johannesburg, Maduna was predominantly self-taught in his early years, before becoming associated with fellow artists David Koloane, Matsemela Manaka at the Institute of Art in Soweto, exhibiting for the first time at the Federated Union of Black Arts Gallery in Newtown, Johannesburg. Between 1988 and 2000 he worked as a commercial artist before deciding to become a full-time artist and he has exhibited widely and his work is found in several significant collections. Now known more for his portrait studies, this rare, large, early pastel highlights the colour and vibrance associated with Contemporary African art.
