SYDNEY LONG ARE (1871 - 1955)

Sydney Long ARE was a famous Australian Symbolist. He was an exceptionally fine etcher, but also developed a name for himself painting stylized Australian bush landscapes. Influenced by Heidelberg School artists such as Arthur Streeton and Frederick McCubbin, he pioneered a new style of Australian paganism and Art Nouveau, creating a mythical and poetic vision of the Australian bush. His paintings and etchings are widely represented in all major Australian Galleries and several English collections.
