GEORGE BARKER (1942 - )
George Barker is a prominent Contemporary Australian painter and printmaker. Trained at the National Art School, and originally represented by Watters Gallery in Sydney, Barker has exhibited locally and overseas at important institutions such as the Museum Of Modern Art. His work is represented at the Art Gallery of NSW and the National Gallery of Victoria. This large, rare oil painting is inspired by the ancient Minoan ruins of Hagia Triada on the island of Crete, and the shapes and colours remind me of 1980s New York graffiti artists such as Keith Haring.
