GEORGE A. J. WEBB (1861 - 1949)
George Alfred John Webb was a English painter who emigrated to Australia in the late 19th century. Bridal Veil and Weeping Rock in Leura was a popular photo location for Blue Mountains' tourists, photographers and artists at the turn of the 20th century. Webb trained as a painter in the UK before emigrating to Melbourne around 1890. He was a prominent portraitist of public figures in Adelaide and Melbourne, but also took a keen interest in painting the Australian landscape and Indigenous Australians. One of his Sydney vistas recently appeared at Sotheby’s Australia.
