DESMOND WARD DIGBY (1933 - 2015)

Desmond Ward Digby was an acclaimed New Zealand costume & set designer, as well as a successful painter and children's book illustrator. Having studied painting at the Slade School of Art in London, he moved to Australia in 1959 and worked as a set and costume designer with Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet and the Elizabethan Trust Opera. He even produced a head-dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1957 film The Prince and the Showgirl. Digby's work is reminiscent of contemporary, Sidney Nolan, and is represented in most Australian and several well regarded International galleries.
