Desmond Ward Digby was an acclaimed New Zealand costume & set designer, as well as a successful painter and children's book illustrator. Having studied painting at the Slade School of Art in London, he moved to Australia in 1959 and worked as a set and costume designer with Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet and the Elizabethan Trust Opera.
