REGINALD G. RUSSOM (1887 - 1952)

Reginald G. Russom was a respected Australian artist and printmaker. Having studied under Julian Ashton, he exhibited regularly at the Royal Society of Artists. He found worldwide fame in the early 20th century for being a chief illustrator for the New York Times and Life Magazine, and was arguably better known in the United States than his own country. He returned to Australia and died in Newcastle. Cobb & Co was a well known collective of Australian coaching businesses, established in 1853. They grew to great prominence in the late 19th century, when it was carried by many stagecoaches 
carrying passengers and mail to various Australian goldfields, and later to many regional and remote areas of the Australian outback. This powerful, historically important etching reminds me of a similar work by Sir Lionel Lindsay.
