NICHOLAS VILLAR SHIELS RA (1854 - 1946)

Nicholas Villar Shiels RA was a well known British painter who relocated to Australia in the late 1800s. He studied at the Slade School in London, and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, the Grosvenor, and other galleries of note in the United Kingdom. Having moved to Sydney in the 1890s, he exhibited and lectured with Livingston Hopkins and Julian Ashton at the Art Society of NSW & the NSW Society of Artists.
