THEODOR BAIERL (1881 - 1932)

Theodor Baierl was an important, well-regarded German fresco and classical artist, and a prominent member of the Munich Secession, a contemporary Franz Von Stuck and Gustav Klimt. Inspired by Albrecht Durer, he became a successful and well known church fresco painter, and his works can be seen in churches throughout southern Germany & Bavaria. During the First World War, his church-related commissions disappeared and were never fully restored. As a result, he changed his approach, devoting himself to paintings of an allegorical or historical nature, eventually modernizing his style.
