PETER KENNEDY (1945 - )

Peter Kennedy is a pioneering Australian conceptual & installation artist. He was one of the first Australian artists to work with light as installation, alongside Frank Hinder and Stan Ostoja-Kotkowski, creating immersive environments through minimalist arrangements of coloured neon tubes. His experimental, ground-breaking body of work has encompassed installation, performance, photography, sound, video and drawing. Originally from Brisbane, now based in Melbourne, this early oil was actually completed in Sydney during his transition from National Art School student studying the American abstract-expressionists to his apprenticeship at neon light company, Claude Neon, permanently shifting the direction of his art. Kennedy’s work has been collected by numerous museums –  including the Museum Of Contemporary Art, National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of NSW, Centre Georges Pompidou, the Tate Gallery, ICA London, and the National Gallery of Canada.
