WALTER KOENIGSTEIN (1944 - )

Walter Koenigstein is an acclaimed Austrian Minimalist, Poet and Sculptor. Based in New York City, he is known for his simplistic visuals; forms rooted in Gothic script, and inspired by Chinese & Japanese calligraphy. Using minimal, abstract strokes of charcoal, Koenigstein is able to convey a range of feelings, ideas, and emotions. He has exhibited Internationally at some of the greatest Modern Art institutions including The Guggenheim and MOMA NYC with influential artists Georg Baselitz and Anselm Keifer, and his work is represented in important collections such as Yale University Art Gallery and The Guggenheim. This piece also reminds me of Australia mid century artists Royston Harpur & Peter Upward.
